Dr. Barry Harris, legendary musician, bandleader, composer, educator, and Keeper of the Bebop Flame transitioned on December 8, 2021. His musical legacy is now being carried on by the official organization formed at his direction, the Barry Harris Institute of Jazz, a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Because you are a supporter of Barry Harris and a valued member of the Barry Harris jazz family, you know how important it is that we keep Barry Harris’ music and teachings alive. We’d love to invite you to get involved with the Barry Harris Institute of Jazz.

The Barry Harris Institute of Jazz (“BHIJ”) was formed for the purpose of protecting, preserving, and promulgating the musical compositions, teachings, and musical legacy of Barry Harris. BHIJ has launched a number of initiatives aimed at these objectives. BHIJ is planning a memorial celebration and concert in Barry’s honor this year. BHIJ is also working to collect and archive the music and music related artifacts Barry left behind. Other initiatives surrounding Barry’s music and teaching methods are in the works.
