It’s important to emphasize at this point that Barry focused much of each class on practicing the various movements (outlined above) on either specific chord sequences, or segments of songs. The student should apply these exercises to some of the following situations.
Here are some chord sequences that constantly appear in many of the songs that Barry played:
Important chord sequences:
- IV major 6 > V > I (Note: IV major 6 = II minor 7)
- IV minor 6 > V (Note: IV minor 6 = II minor 7 b5)
- V7 > I major
- V7 > I minor
- I major > IV7
- IV major > IV minor > I
- IV major > IV minor > III minor
- I major > VI minor > VI minor 6 with 6 in the bass (Note: VI minor 6 = #IV m7b5)
